Year 2
All students, regardless of their background and elective track, are expected to identify a thesis research laboratory and join that laboratory by the end of the Spring Quarter. Students must have identified a research advisor prior to the start of the 2nd year to be in good academic standing.
Additionally in Year 2, students will begin preparing for their qualifying examination by giving presentations for the Student Seminars.
End of Year 2 through 5
- Spring of 2nd year or earlier - Qualifying Examination
- Spring of 3rd year or earlier - Advance to Candidacy
- End of 5th year - Thesis, Thesis Defense, and Ph.D.
