Most students admitted into the BISB Ph.D. Program are supported by a financial support package that covers tuition and fees, health insurance (UC SHIP), and an annual stipend for living expenses, as long as the student maintains good academic standing and meets university and program requirements.
For US citizens and residents, financial support may be derived from the NIH-funded Institutional Training Grants in Bioinformatics (T32GM139790) and in Biomedical Informatics (T15LM011271), educational state funds, and faculty research funds.
Eligible students (U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents) must establish California residency before the start of their second academic year; learn more here.
For international students, financial support may be derived from a mix of faculty research funds and fellowships. International students without funding are welcome to apply, but we recommend seeking external funding sources (e.g., home government opportunities or international organizations) at the time of application.
